Grand Knight Christopher Beumel and David Goldmintz,
Director of the Dorchester County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs
On February 20th, 2020 the Father David J Schiller Council 11910 presented David Goldmintz the Director of the Dorchester County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs with a $5,000 Columbus HOPE Foundation grant for our older population of Intellectually Disabled citizens. The funds will be used to provide seniors the opportunity to participate in horticultural therapy, attend exercise classes, and receive nutrition counseling. As healthcare has improved for people with intellectual disabilities, so has our need to specialize supports and services for the geriatric population. There are groups of older consumers who no longer wish to work but have limited opportunities other than traditional "adult day care". Older people with significant disabilities that have significant sensory deficits may benefit from adaptive items that help them integrate with the world around them.
